E30 325i and M3 Differential Upgrade---COOL!!

<==Back to Articles Page

Do you have a 1984-1991 3-series BMW with above average horsepower or one that's driven at high speeds for long periods of time? Me too. Well, here's good news for your differential. The Z3 based M Coupe uses the same rear suspension as the E30, including the differential, and because that application is a serious hi power package, the differential HAS to be kept cool.

BMW's answer? The coolest differential cooler ever----a replacement differential cover with 10 times the cooling fins and an updated rear mount. [See picture #1]. Even better, it's not very expensive and it's easy to install. We took out the diff to make the installation easier and cleaner, and then it's just a matter of unbolting the old cover and bolting on the new one [though you should get a new bolt set when you order the cover because the lengths are all different for the new cover]. Finally, just put the differential assembly back in place and check the fluid level. [See picture #2]

Remember, now, that the people in the cars behind you can see the cooling fins hanging down from the differential, so you won't be able to hide the fact that your car is prepared for serious performance. Have fun.
