Still
on the road, and much less enthused about it. After getting through
the last hundred miles of Tennessee, we spent the entire rest of
the day driving the length of Virginia so that we could get to DC
for rush hour.
We’re
finally back in the land of unsweetened iced tea now, so we must
be out of the South. Grant Randall, of Alexandria Bavarian Service,
took us to dinner to make a sweet end to a pretty tiring day. Mmmm….crab
cakes.

Alexandria,
Virginia. Up in the morning and off to work---at Alexandria Bavarian
Service----on Debbie’s 2002. Reglued a few rubber and carpet pieces
back in place, looked to see what was damaged from running over
a tire in the night (just more air dam cracks), replaced worn shifter
parts, and generally looked things over. Alles in ordnung.
Debbie
and Rhett rode the Metro train downtown to see the police state---all
the big
monuments are now barricaded off and roving police bands are everywhere.
About
noon we said goodbye to Grant, Bill, Art and the boys and headed
north around Washington, past Baltimore to our country home for
a day in Forest Hill, Maryland. Jim Kramer and Chris Depkin are
old friends from our days as cave explorers and they have a wonderfully
restful and welcoming home in the hills and forests of northern
Maryland. We had built into our schedule an extra day in case of
mechanical problems and now that we have none, we have a day of
rest at the ranch.
We started
our rest day with a great home cooked meal of crab cakes with another
old caver friend, Gil Edigar, catching up on rumors and gossip.
And a fine time was had by all.
