Archive (Feb '07-May '07)

This is the section of our site created to showcase the pirate adventures that make us who we are! This journal will keep track of all of the goings on, as soon as we can possibly put it on the page.

If you want to view stories car by car, click on the car images above, to see each car's story as it unfolds. This page tracks all of our race cars in chronological order:

Vintage Racing at Motorsport Ranch in Ft. Worth - Photos by Phil Hartman & Mike Stephens
5.18.2007 - 5.20.2007

Phil Hartman, George Adkins, & Terry took the vintage 2002 to Ft. Worth for the final spring Corinthian Vintage Race. With perfect weather- partly cloudy and highs of around 80° F - there were around 120 cars at the event, including around 30 in our race group! With that many cars, there is always great racing.

Terry qualified 3rd for the Saturday race, but started last as usual, since racing is always most fun when when starting in last place. In the three races for the weekend he finished 5th, 8th and 9th overall, starting in last place each time. -And we had great fun!

The only sad note was the lack of other 2002 racers. There are at least 8 other 2002 racers in the region, but only Tim Woodruf from Houston came out for this weekend...he had a clutch failure on Friday, towed home, fixed the car and came back to race on Sunday. Now that's dedication! And he is fast!

Lemon Bimmer Goes BMW CCA Club Racing

Road racing debut at Motor Sport Ranch in Ft. Worth

Our Lemon Bimmer Project, conceived as an experiment in racing on a budget, built up from a parts car, had its track debut this weekend in Ft. Worth, TX. The 1.7 mile short course there is an exciting racing venue, and almost 20 BMW Club Racers gathered for the first club race in the region. Early and late M3 cars in various states of modification made up the bulk of the field with experienced drivers and these guys are fast. Way faster than any unmodified e30 can ever be.

FT. Worth, TX- Finally it's ready. It seemed to almost physically resist in it's final preparation - but this weekend it had it's first race outing. And what an outing!

Terry, Phil Hartman, Rhett Hubertus, & George Adkins took the brand new car to Motor Sport Ranch in Ft. Worth this weekend for its first ever BMW CCA Club Race. Against well worked-out & fast M3s, our expectations were not high. With literally thousands of problem areas, we thought surely there would be teething issues.

There were none. The car drove every practice session and every race - finished every one. No test time on any track, no problem. Qualified in 5th position for the Saturday race, finished 6th after starting from the back of the field. First in class, same on Sunday. It's as if the car were prepared by someone who knew what they were doing, by adults instead of us kids. Or, as Brent says, as if it were prepared in another zip code!

We do have a list of details and improvements, but what a great start! The corner workers voted us the most beautiful, safest and best raced car there; epitomizing the spirit of club racing.

April 2007 - Corinthian Vintage Auto Racing at Hallet Motor Racing Circuit

Terry & Phil took our '74 2002 Vintage Racer to Hallet Motor Racing Circuit for (3-30-07) Friday practice and for racing on Saturday & Sunday . After a dreary Friday with thunderstorms and cold, the sun came out for Saturday & Sunday and all was right with the world. Dense air, new track surfaces and good tires made for fast times & hotly contested races.

Terry elected to start at the back of the field most races so that he could see more traffic to race with, and he had a wonderful time. He set a new record at the track for the B Sedan Class.

2006 Club Race Champion - My Race Memories
By Buddy Eltringham

Reading through this months Roundel magazine where I saw Terry Sayther's 2002 racecar as part of an article entitled "Club Racing Crowns 2006 Champions" brought back a flood of memories of a day in 2005 when the Tejas Chapter went to the Texas World Speedway near College Station for our monthly club event. It was club racing day and Terry Sayther was racing his 2002, one of my favorite BMW models...

March 2007- We've Painted the LeMon E30 Racer....Yellow!

We're very excited to participate in the upcoming '24 hours of LeMons' race in July, so to prepare the car for racing, we spared no in-expense to paint 'er. We gathered the most Pirates we could find on a Friday afternoon and went to work "lemonizing" it.

Also, we have started a new web site just for the Lemon Bimmer Project:

February 2007- Vintage Race Season Opens at Texas World Speedway

Terry & Phil took our '74 2002 Vintage Racer to College Station for Fridaypractice and for racing onSaturday & Sunday. Our ususal thorough preparation meant that we had no problems at all during the weekend and the car just got faster and faster.

Terry elected to start at the back of the field most races so that he could see more traffic to race with, and he had a wonderful time. His fastest time (ever) came Sunday
with a 2 minute 1.8 second lap, setting a new record for the B Sedan Class. We can't wait for next month, racing in Oklahoma!
