"I had a mystery problem with my car (2002 BMW 330 CIC) that resulted in emergency downshifts to 2nd gear which almost knocked out my teeth. The first time I brought the car in and the shop could not reproduce the problem, they changed the transmission fluid and sent me on my way. The second time I brought it in, Ralph (one of the techs at the shop who has been there ever since I started using the shop 6-7 years ago) got on BMW chat sites (not official BMW sites) and found a similar incident based on a bad oil temperature monitor. He then checked historical readings in my car's computer, proved that the problem was in fact a faulty oil temperature monitor (temperature appeared to spike over 100 degrees in 1 second) and fixed the problem in a couple of days. I can't say that Terry Sayther Automotive is cheap because I have never been to another BMW garage; however, people with this kind of skill and patience aren't supposed to be cheap, they keep my 10 year old vehicle running like a top and I don't have a car note. To my mind this is a very fair exchange."
